Chandigarh (Mera Chandigarh): The shopkeepers of sector-37 market has protested against the lawlessness act of Chandigarh Police by staging a dharna in front of the office of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) South, Jaswant Singh Khaira on Tuesday.

Chandigarh (Mera Chandigarh): The shopkeepers of sector-37 market has protested against the lawlessness act of  Chandigarh Police by staging a dharna in front of the office of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) South, Jaswant Singh Khaira on Tuesday.

As per the available information, the Chandigarh police has arrested the shopkeeper Sohan Lal, Sector -37 market Chandigarh on a fictitious complaint of suspended head constable Mahender Singh and tortured him in the Sector-39 police station of Chandigarh.

It is to mention here that Sohan Lal, shopkeeper, Sector -37 market Chandigarh had filed a complaint against the cop for allegedly extorting money from the shopkeepers of the market and is being pressurised to withdraw the case.

According to S S Shrivastava, SSP, Chandigarh, he was unaware of the matter and came to know only when the Shopkeepers approached him. He heard the matter and directed the DSP Khaira to get Lal medically examined as it is mandatory to get the accused medically examined after his/her arrest and ensured the shopkeepers to give resolution in the matter.
