Chandigarh (Mera Chandigarh): The Chandigarh Administration has launched a massive anti encroachment drive in Rajiv Labour Colony Sector-38-West on Thursday.
Chandigarh(Mera Chandigarh):The Chandigarh Administration has launched a massive anti encroachment drive in Rajiv Labour Colony Sector-38-West on Thursday.
According to information, the operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner Chandigarh who was assisted by the officers of the Chandigarh Administration including three DSPs and a heavy contingent of police personnels.
Sufficient machinery including 8 JCBs/tippers etc. were engaged in the operation to carry out the drive efficiently.
It is to mention that, the process of identification of eligible persons started about ten days back by organizing camp in the Rajiv Colony Sector-38 West. There were two category of persons occupying the land in this colony. One category was of those persons who were covered under the biometric survey conducted in the year 2006 and other category was of persons who occupied this land unauthorisedly. They had been given advance warning to vacate this land.

Resultantly approximately 700 persons occupying land unauthorisedly by raising huts left this colony without offering any resistance. Approximately 620 jhuggi dwellers who were covered under biometric survey were given alternative sites near labour colony No.5. Basic amenities/public conveniences have been adequately provided to these persons at new site. The entire operation was conducted smoothly and in a peaceful manner. No untoward incident occurred during the entire operation. In this operation around 8-10 acres of government land has been cleared of encroachment and handed over to the Engineering Department.
