Inscol Hospital Fined Rs 17 Lakh for Deficiency in Services: Chandigarh Forum
Chandigarh (Mera Chandigarh): Chandigarh District Disputes and Consumer Redressal Forum on Tuesday directed Sector 34 based Inscol Multi-Speciality Hospital to pay Rs 17 lakh to Manimajra resident for deficiency in services.
According to information, complainant, Inderjit Arora, a resident of Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra was suffering from diabetes from past 10 years and was admitted to Inscol hospital for treatment under the supervision of Dr Banerjee and was advised to visit the Prime Diagnostic Centre for procedural tests.
After going through the procedural tests she revisited Dr Banerjee and was told to get hersef admitted to ICU at Inscol in lieu of carrying out more tests, however, none of the test helped in ascertaining the detection of pulmonary embolism. Her condition deteriorated during the night and TPA injection worth Rs 72000 was recommended.
As per the TPA instruction manual and consumer medicine information, the injection was to be administered only after confirmation of pulmonary embolism by a physician experienced in the use of thrombolytic treatment and at a place with facilities to monitor its use as the side-effect was dangerous.
It was held the patient was administered a particular injection without confirming the disease, and by a doctor not having the requisite qualification. After the injection, her condition further deteriorated and no ventilator was made available to her. As a result, she was shifted to Fortis, where she had to spend nearly Rs 8 lakh on her treatment at Fortis, which had caused her mental harassment.
