Chandigarh (Mera Chandigarh): The Chandigarh Administration has decided to replace Ration cards with new smart cards to give its benefits to persons who really needed.

Ram Niwas Chandigarh Home Secretary holds a meeting in this regard on Thursday with concern officials.
According to information, it was decided in the meeting that the system would be made operational by the vendor for first two years. However in the second year, the vendor would start involving manpower of the food and civil supplies department.
During the third and fourth years, operations would be carried out by the work force of the department and supervised by the vendor.
After the fourth year, the entire model of implementation would be handled by the department.
To avoid the misuse of smart cards by outsiders, it was deliberated that in addition to capturing of biometric features, provision of iris capturing will be incorporated in the RFP..
The system envisions setting up of POS (point of sale) terminals in all the fair price shops of the city.
The identity of the smart card holder will be established by means of biometric impression of the smart card holder upon insertion of the card in the POS terminal
