Maloya Migrant Character Offers Equal Chances for All Candidates
Chandigarh (Mera Chandigarh):-majority of voters is consists of migrant character, whose primarily reason to reside in Chandigarh is to earn their livelihood and send it back to their original places.
Chandigarh(Mera Chandigarh):-Elections in city beautiful Chandigarh, always remains flavorless and without much motivation for parties and candidates.
Chandigarh parliamentary constituency consists of 404 polling booths which are spread over 114 square kilometer.
The Maloya village, along with newly developed colonies, mostly inhabited by migrant labourers and low income group population, has voter strength of 12682, which is more than 1% if total votes registered in Chandigarh.
Polling station, Government senior secondary school village Maloya, hosts seven polling booths. In this report we will discuss booth no 3 to 7of Maloya.
The area under these polling booths has 5961 voters, who are residing in 2155 houses; it means, a house has an average of 3 voters in this polling area.
As per voters’ list published by election commission of India, in March 2009, 678 new voters got listed in this area; where as 29 voters have left this area after 2004 Lok Sabha elections.

The area caters by polling station; Government Senior Secondary School covers mainly Maloya village and Maloya colony.
The economical status of the voters of this polling area varies from extreme lower income group to lower middle income group.
The demography of this area is dominated by migrant labourers from other states, which makes this polling area prone to allurement by money and liquor.
As this area hosts more than one percent of total votes of Chandigarh constituency with history of higher voters’ turnout in previous elections, which encourages candidates to try under table methods to woo voters.
As majority of voters is consists of migrant character, whose primarily reason to reside in Chandigarh is to earn their livelihood and send it back to their original places.
The vote bank politics, which forces them to acquire Chandigarh voter’s status to make their jobs secure and becomes socially established in alien place like Chandigarh.
The three announced candidates for Chandigarh Parliamentary constituency in Lok Sabha Elecions-2009, Pawan Kumar Bansal (Congress Party), Satyapal Jain(BJP) and Harmohan Dhawan(BSP) have equal chance to woo voters in their folds as all of them have equal economics at their back.
