To set up an order, customers link their Amazon account with their connected auto service account.

Is in-car delivery available to all customers?

Last fall Amazon took a step toward trying to provide a more secure delivery solution for Amazon Prime members who were ordering physical goods from the company.

Inc. has partnered with General Motors Co. and Volvo Cars to deliver packages to vehicle trunks in 37 USA cities, as the e-commerce giant seeks new delivery methods for customers who may be wary of leaving packages outside or allowing couriers into their homes.

In-car delivery is available at no extra cost for Prime members and is available today in 37 cities and surrounding areas across the USA with more cities rolling out over time. Delivery is available on tens of millions of items sold on Amazon.com, and it works with Same Day, Two-Day, and Standard Shipping.

Amazon Key enables in-car deliveries by linking your Amazon Prime account with your Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac Owner Center account and active connected vehicle service plan. Support for even more vehicle makes and models will be added over time, according to a release.

With the new Amazon Key in-car delivery service, a courier finds your vehicle, unlocks it, places ordered items inside and locks the auto again.

The Amazon Key app uses a camera and smart lock so Prime members can have deliveries put inside their home, or vehicle.

Mets' Starting Pitcher Matt Harvey Has Been Moved To the Bullpen
Harvey was diagnosed with a partially torn ulnar collateal ligament in his right elbow, shutting him down for the season. Harvey acknowledged that he can help the team from the bullpen but isn't happy with the news.

The in-car delivery scheme, available to Amazon Prime members, is an attempt by Amazon to overcome the hesitation that many feel about opening their home remotely for couriers.

A final notification comes when the auto is locked with the package inside.

Amazon has devoted much effort to figuring out how to stop its packages from being stolen from porches and public spaces, which is costing the company a pretty penny.

Amazon Key for in-car deliveries is free for Prime members in select cities and areas, provided that their vehicles are compatible.

"Amazon's tentacles are everywhere", said Chester.

Amazon Key will now deliver packages into a customer's vehicle at no extra charge, saving them time and money.

One can get the package without having to be present or signing for anything, they'd simply find it in the trunk of their auto. The owner can also track when the auto was unlocked and relocked in the app's activity feed. This can be to the building of your delivery address or in-car delivery on the next delivery day. Once that process is complete, the auto is unlocked so the package can be left inside. It does require that the vehicle is parked "near" a registered customer delivery location, like their home or office.
