A freezing rain warning was issued Friday for areas including Waterloo-Wellington, Huron-Perth and southern portions of Grey-Bruce.

The best chance of seeing ice storm conditions will be between northern Kent County and Cadillac Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Freezing rain will resume again on Sunday, and then change to heavy rain with the potential for localized flooding. The wind watch is for Tug Hill counties from Sunday night through Monday afternoon.

That could cause power outages and tree damage there as well, the weather service said. Thus an accumulation of ice is possible later on Saturday into Saturday night which will cause for some risky travel conditions. Travellers are being warned to check their flights online before heading out.

Capps said it was his understanding Steven Pladl drove to the NY area "for the specific objective of making some confrontations". The mother said Steven's daughter/wife had broken up with him over the phone the day before. "He killed his wife".

Freezing rain is expected to end for a few hours on Saturday evening, with patchy freezing drizzle likely during the lull.

"It's a lot of freezing rain, no question about it", said Kimbell. This entails holding planning meetings, readying crews and equipment, mobilizing employees for storm duty and preparing to make arrangements for additional resources if needed.

The weather agency says the region is expected to get around 25-30 mm of rain over the weekend, which is about half of the month's average rainfall. By early Saturday afternoon, about 8,000 people were without power.

Drivers were urged to take extra care, as gusty winds and broken tree limbs could add to the danger on icy roads.
