Some tried to cling to the sides of his sports utility vehicle and scores of motorbikes followed Khan as he was driven at high speed to Jodhpur airport to a waiting chartered jet.
The scenes were more intense outside his Mumbai residence. He can not leave India without court permission.
Most of his family members, including sisters Arpita and Alvira, have been in Jodhpur since Wednesday to be with Khan.
The district and sessions court heard arguments on the suspension of sentence and bail application before deferring the matter till today.
The 52-year-old was convicted of the poaching of rare deer on Tuesday, and was sentenced to five years in jail and a fine of 10,000 rupees (£110).
The actor is alleged to have shot and killed blackbucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur on the night of 1 October, 1998 during the shooting of the film "Hum Saath Saath Hain".
Four other actors who starred with him in the movie and were also charged with the offence have been acquitted.

Mahesh Manjrekar, an actor and filmmaker, told the Press Trust of India that Mr. Khan had been treated unfairly. Although this gives the star another chance to wriggle out of the sentence, it still raises the question - what would happen to brand Salman Khan ultimately?
Khan's convicted was expected to be a roadblock for a number of his upcoming movies - these include Race 3, Bharat, Dabangg 3 and Kick 2.
The Rajasthan government has challenged his acquittal in the Chinkara deer case in the Supreme Court.
