The Panthers released Stewart on Wednesday, Bryan Strickland of the Panthers' official site reports. The only National Football League he's played for released its career rushing leader to save money. But if Stewart were to join a team like the Rams in which he would have a limited role playing behind Gurley to fill in when needed, this is a move that seems like it would benefit both parties, especially if Malcolm Brown ends up elsewhere.
Not only did Stewart rush for 7,318 yards and score 51 touchdowns in his 10 years with the organization, but also, he proved to be an invaluable leader capable of leading through his words, and more importantly, with his actions. "He brought an element of toughness as a runner that set the tempo for our team", head coach Ron Rivera said. "He is a great pro and I appreciate who he is as a young man and thank him for him for the contribution he made". He also ranks No. 1 with 1,699 rushing attempts. His 58 career touchdowns are second in the team's history.
Stewart was in the final year of his contract in 2018 after signing a one-year extension last offseason. It might not be long before he finds another team.

He also argued for teachers, parents, and communities to work toward increasing school security to prevent the next attack. In a statement Wednesday, NEA president Lily Eskelsen García said, "Educators need to be focused on teaching our students".
The Panthers are approximately $30 million under the projected salary cap for 2018. Remember Marshawn Lynch in Seattle? Stewart averaged a career-low 3.4 yards per carry (680 yards on 198 carries), and his total yards were his fewest since 2013, when he was limited by injuries.
Plus, there are other veteran, accomplished backs available if the Seahawks want to add a veteran to their backfield. But Gore is now 34.
"Last year, we went to Tennessee for a preseason game and they got after us pretty good in the first quarter".
