It's been just two years since he hoisted a trophy on the PGA Tour, but with a mind that moves as fast as Bubba Watson's, it must have felt like an eternity.

"Knowing how hard this golf course is, my whole thing was trying to hit greens, somehow just hang in there wherever I was", the 39-year-old Watson said. "If I don't win tomorrow, or if I do win tomorrow, I'm still going in the right direction". Because physically, I wasn't where I needed to be to continue to play.

Bubba Watson, back in business with a new ball on a course where he has won twice before, took the third-round lead at the Genesis Open on Saturday as a large pack queued up close behind. The following week, he finished one shot behind at the World Golf Championships event at Doral.

NAPLES, Fla. - Joe Durant birdied the final two holes to win the PGA Tour Champions' Chubb Classic. He missed last year's Presidents Cup, and was only an assistant captain at the 2016 Ryder Cup. Hogan's wins include a US Open.

"Mashed potatoes!" was one of the many enlightening hollers from the galleries as a minority of well-hydrated fans followed Woods and his playing partner, Rory McIlroy, in the blazing Californian sun. Good to see you back in the winner's enclosure once again.

The Floridian's strongest performance in round three, a six-under round of 65, had powered him to a one-shot lead for the final day. The victory is sure to be a jolt of confidence, especially the way he won.

This is the 11th time Watson has held at least a share of the 54-hole lead, recording three victories in those instances.

Marco Asensio: 'Real Madrid are in a good moment'
Goals from Ronaldo, Marco Asensio (2), Ramos and Benzema gave Madrid all three points over Real Betis at the Benito Villamarin . Ronaldo scored again as Madrid overcame Real Betis 5-3 in LaLiga on Sunday.

Woods' troubles began on the front nine and went downhill when he had birdies around a bogey at the fourth hole before three bogeys in four holes from the sixth left him at two-over.

Watson is one of three Milton High grads, along with former prep teammates Boo Weekley and Heath Slocum, who were once all competing together with Durant on the PGA Tour.

He was just warming up. But he went after birdie and saw the ball roll 20 feet down the hill, leading to bogey. They were both in a group of 10 sharing 15th place on two-under. He fired out from the hazard, the ball struck the pin and disappeared into the hole.

A birdie at the par-five first on Sunday looked promising, but three bogeys on the front nine left him trailing at the turn. None of it matter as he holed a clutch par putt on 13 to regain control of the tournament.

That's a long way from the depths of 2017, when he failed to advance past the second playoff event and dropped outside the top 100 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Was he really close to calling it quits? There's so many emotions going through my head right now: "never know if you're going to play good again, never know if you're going to life a trophy again, so many things, I thought about retirement; just so much stuff going through my head right now, I can't believe I'm gonna life a trophy here in a second".
