The 2018 CB asteroid, thought to be even bigger than the Chelyabinsk space rock which exploded over Russian Federation this month five years ago, will pass within 39,000 miles (64,000 kilometers) of Earth on Friday.
"Although 2018 CB is quite small, it might well be larger than the asteroid that entered the atmosphere over Chelyabinsk, Russia, nearly exactly five years ago, in 2013", said Chodas.
It will pass by Earth within one-fifth of the distance between the Earth and the moon.
The planet Earth is set to have a close encounter with a small asteroid today.
The first of this week's close-approaching asteroids-discovered by CSS on February 4-is designated asteroid 2018 CC.
The moon is about 240,000 miles from earth.
Apart from these two asteroids, another spooky asteroid named 2015 TB145, which is known as the Halloween asteroid because of its appearance, is going to fly by our planet this year.

"Although 2018 CB is quite small, it might well be larger than the asteroid that entered the atmosphere over Chelyabinsk, Russia, nearly exactly five years ago, in 2013", he added.
The space agency only caught sight of the pair of asteroids on Sunday - just days before they were due for a close encounter with our planet.
An asteroid, estimated to be between 15 and 30 metres in size, will safely pass by Earth on Friday, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has said.
On Friday March 9, a much smaller asteroid will make a safe but much closer pass.
The asteroid is estimated at about 50 feet to 130 feet in size, possibly a little larger than the asteroid that exploded over Russian Federation five years ago this month.
In the meantime, astronomers are looking out for asteroids in the far cosmic reaches.
On Feb. 15, 2013, an asteroid roughly 17 metres in size lit up the sky over Chelyabinsk breaking up, with a large piece landing in a lake.
