Patra said the "self guilt" of Kejriwal was evident as he tried to bring a law retrospectively to keep the appointment of the MLAs as parliamentary secretaries out of the purview of the office of profit. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, who led his party to an emphatic win securing 67 of the 70 assembly seats in 2015 could not have inducted more than 7 ministers in his Government.

The AAP launched an unrestrained attack on Chief Election Commissioner A K Joti, saying he was "repaying the debt" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi before his retirement on Monday, January 22.

"The disqualification of 20 AAP MLAs was his gift to PM Modi".

In a major development, the Delhi High Court on Friday took note of the petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party MLAs which challenged the recommendations by the Election Commission for disqualifying 20 of its lawmakers for holding office of profit.

AIADMK to write to EC to disqualify Pondy MLAs The AIADMK on Saturday said it would seek disqualification of the ruling Congress and DMK legislators in Puducherry "for holding office of profit", in view of the EC's to disqualify 20 AAP MLAs in New Delhi on similar grounds. "In other states, wherever the parliamentary secretaries are appointed, they were given the status of minister of state and all facilities were given to them", AAP spokesperson Sanjay Singh told reporters at a press conference.

Parliamentary Secretaries assist ministers with their work. "The Chief Election Commission gave enough time to these MLAs to explain their position on the issue and hearing on the matter went on for almost two years", he said.

The Congress has demanded that the same set of rules be applied by the ECI in BJP ruled Chhattisgarh too and the 11 MLAs be disqualified.

A senior AAP leader said the Congress was going "overboard" without understanding the "game plan" of the BJP. At present, AAP has 66 MLAs in the Delhi Assembly. "At this hour we are strongly with Arvind Kejriwal and his team", she tweeted.

"Kejriwal has no right to continue".

AAP Delhi unit chief Gopal Rail alleged that the poll panel failed to give the party a hearing before sending its recommendations to President Ram Nath Kovind.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari said the poll panel had allowed long adjournments to the MLAs during the hearings.

BJP will gain significant margin in the seats if the Delhi Bypolls are conducted given the significant importance of this election in the 2019 General Election. "Arvind Kejriwal should take responsibility for moral defeat and resign", he said.
