The launch marks WhatsApp's first real attempt to engage businesses on its platform. With such a huge audience, businesses would want to create an online presence where their customers can easily get in touch with them. The company has highlighted few benefits about the application on its official blog.

Business Profiles: Help customers with useful information such as a business description, email or store addresses, and website. There are quick replies for frequently asked questions, greeting messages to welcome customers, and away messages.

Further, the new app will also review simple metrics like the number of messages read to ascertain statistics.

"You can check your contact's profile to see which type of account they're using", it explains.

Regular users can continue using WhatsApp as usual as there's no need to download anything new. Users will also have the control to block and report businesses if they find anything inappropriate.

Idema, who was a Facebook executive before he joined WhatsApp a year ago, said WhatsApp intends to charge businesses in some form in the future, but he said it was too soon to discuss when that would happen or what the future business services would look like.

WhatsApp had earlier stated that it is important to serve businesses as they heavily rely on the platform to communicate with their customers. Verified business accounts were marked with a green checkmark. Both the WhatsApp Messenger and WhatsApp Business apps can be used on the same device, according to The Verge.

WhatsApp Business is now limited to Android users. WhatsApp did not mention when or if an iOS version would be available.

WhatsApp has launched its new WhatsApp Business service in Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, the United States and the UK, ahead of a worldwide launch that will follow over the coming weeks. Earlier, after clicking on the link of the YouTube video that came on WhatsApp, the video was opened in the user's app in the YouTube app.
