"The "Dreamers" have lived their whole lives in this country - many are now in their 30s". Democrats have threatened to withhold those votes without an immigration agreement.
The district court ruling granted California Attorney General Xavier Becerra a preliminary injunction against the Trump administration over its September 5 decision to end the program, ramping up a heated debate over the fate of 800,000 young, undocumented immigrants. During this six-month period, the Trump administration called on Congress to pass permanent legislation. Congress has until March 5 to salvage the Obama-era program and protect an estimated 800,000 undocumented immigrants who grew up in the USA from deportation. DACA has allowed them to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and get a work permit.
But Republicans claim Democrats won't back a long-term spending plan until Congress agrees to shield hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants from deportation.
U.S. District Judge William Alsup on Tuesday granted a request by California and other plaintiffs to prevent Trump from ending the program while their lawsuits play out in court.
Lawmakers want Trump's chief of staff John Kelly, who previously served as head of the Department of Homeland Security, to be the point person on the negotiations because they want someone who understands the issue and is constantly invested in talks, the source told CNN. "About 5 percent have already started their own business; 15 percent have bought their first homes", he continued.
"We want to make sure that we have interior and border enforcement", he said.
"I feel having the Democrats in with us is absolutely vital because it should be a bipartisan bill".
Missing Texas journalist Courtney Roland has been found
Police in Houston say a passer-by contacted authorities after spotting a missing sports journalist underneath a highway overpass. Her white Jeep was found overnight in a parking garage close to the shopping center, police said . "She cared for people".
"As I made very clear today, our country needs the security of the Wall on the Southern Border, which must be part of any DACA approval", Trump tweeted.
"This debate is passionate and partisan, as it should be", Archbishop Gomez said.
"You need the wall".
The nation's immigration system "has been broken for too long and there is too much that is wrong", he added, saying that "a serious debate about border security" is also important.
"Congress should take the time to debate the issues properly and to truly fashion an immigration system that reflects the global realities of the 21st-century economy", the archbishop said. How can the GOP give Trump a win on the wall without alienating Democrats from a bipartisan solution on DACA?
"We can not have a conversation about those who are in our country illegally before we stop the flow of illegal immigration", Barletta said previous year. "And then we can go to comprehensive (immigration reform) later on".
