Tesla also said that the Roadster, which will be available in 2020, can go from 0 to 100 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds and can cover a quarter-mile in 8.9 seconds. Here's an overview of each.

Remember the original Tesla Roadster - looked a bit like a Lotus Exige, costed a lot more and went like stink? Instead, the all-electric semi truck is capable of driving 500 miles - and that's not with an empty load. Tesla claims a range of 500 miles at motorway speed. With 80% of freight in the USA moved less than 250 miles, this means truck operators will often be able to drive both to their destination and back without having to charge.

Tesla hasn't released any details about the semi. And if three streamlined Semis are platooned as a close-following convoy, the cost per mile would go down to 85 cents, Musk said.

A centered driver's seat to maximize visibility.

What could be particularly appealing to fleet operators is the Tesla Semi's tight integration with management services and applications.

Independent motors and onboard sensors that Tesla says will make jackknifing impossible. And he guaranteed the truck will have a lifespan of about a million miles.

But the triumphant launch event was tinged by the knowledge that Tesla's grand ambitions do not always deliver in reality.

And in a surprise announcement, Musk also used the event to reveal a new sports auto he claimed would be the "fastest production vehicle ever" made.

Separately, the coffee-shop giant missed revenue and same-store sales forecasts for the quarter, sending shares lower after hours. Unilever plc (ADR ) notes that the acquisition price for the Tazo Tea brand represents 10 times its pro forma EBIT.

The Roadster will have a range of 620 miles and a top speed of over 250 miles an hour.

Now, a little over two years after Musk's post, we get a first-person look on what it's like to experience dizzying acceleration in the planet's quickest production auto. Cab-alone, it can do the same run in a quarter of that time. "It probably is, based on the specs provided, but this isn't necessarily a slam dunk", said Rebecca Lindland, an executive analyst at Kelley Blue Book.

This is a landmark moment for cars because the Tesla Roadster, previous deemed overpriced and relatively less exotic - is suddenly a bargain at ₹1.3 crore since it out accelerates the likes of a Koenigsegg Agera S, and the ₹13 crore Bugatti Chiron.

Although Thursday night's event celebrated Tesla's largest and smallest new offerings, the company is grappling with how to smooth problems that have hit its flagship Model 3. But the wait isn't too insane.

Tesla will face further questions about how fast it is burning through its cash pile and how soon it will have to ask creditors and shareholders for more after it unveiled its latest electric vehicles.

As far as prices, Tesla didn't provide a specific figure for its semi, but said a diesel truck would cost 20% more to operate than a Tesla Semi from day one. Walmart has confirmed that it reserved fifteen Tesla Semi trucks, telling CNBC that it had earmarked ten for the USA and the remaining five for Canada. Though the vehicle is clearly priced in supercar territory, it's far cheaper than numerous supercars it outperforms.

He said the launch of the new supercar was created to act as a "hardcore smackdown" to gasoline cars.

Now Tesla just needs to build these vehicles. Of course, with the pickup truck business being huge in the United States, it might just happen eventually to allow the Palo Alto company grab a piece of the action. That's right - they think these 10 stocks are even better buys. The power capacity, weight and cost of batteries all limit a truck's ability, analysts say.
