The time change is not observed by Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Marianas. When the leaves start changing and the air gets chilly, Daylight Saving Time is almost at an end. Some clocks still need to be manually adjusted, some computer systems need additional monitoring, and of course there are the endless mix-ups that arise from time changes.
"Our mood is definitely connected to how much sunlight we receive or for many people it is so when we have less time that we're out in the light for some people that can feel like symptoms of depression", Richardson said.
Among some critics of time changes, there is a preference to observe daylight-saving time year-round (as opposed to either changing the clocks twice a year or observing standard time year-round).
When the United States was hit by an oil supply crisis in the early 1970s, the federal government chose to extend daylight time year-round for two years in a bid to save energy.
How can the transition be eased for minimal effect? At least it beats losing an hour in the spring?
New Overwatch hero Moira and new map revealed
No word yet on when Moira will hit PTR, but expect her to be a bit controversial (just like nearly all new Overwatch characters). Coalescence - Moira channels a long-range beam that both heals allies and bypasses barriers to damage her enemies.
Many mainstream devices these days, from smartphones to computers, are programed to automatically adjust their clocks to accomidate daylight saving.
"The autumn transition is often popularized as a gain of 1 [hour] of sleep but there is little evidence of extra sleep on that night", Ms. Harris said in the study.
It's time to fall back again!
During the second year of the USA program, daylight time was lifted between November and February, the darkest months of the year.
