The supreme leader was spotted giggling alongside his wife, Ri Sol Ju (second right) at a North Korean cosmetics factory.
Photographs released Sunday and transmitted on state TV appeared to show the North Korean leader talking to officials and inspecting the products on display during the visit.
A statement from KCNA said Kim was very impressed with the packaging.
The country has reportedly achieved good results in producing national cosmetics.
The couple inspected the factory's production lines and took a close look at a mosaic of Kim's late father, Kim Jong II, entitled "To Provide Our People with Better Cosmetics".
The visit was broadcast nationally, showing a softer side of Kim's tyrant image, who is often seen cheerily laughing on the sidelines of ballistic missile tests. Ri's presence is so rare that rumors about her whereabouts started circulating after she apparently disappeared for months after an appearance in 2016. During a visit to the Pyongyang Cosmetics Factory in the capital, Kim hailed its "world-level" products that realised "the dream of the women who want to be more beautiful", the official KCNA news agency reported.
IV Sasi to be laid to rest today evening
The famous Malayalam filmmaker IV Sasi (Iruppam Veedu Sasidharan) passed away today earlier in Chennai . On the other hand, he also gave Mohanlal the popularity with films like Ineyegillum and Devaasuram.
"It is the dream realised of women who want to be more handsome".
Recent United Nations (UN) sanctions following North Korea's provocative acts have placed additional economic pressure on Pyongyang, but that hasn't stopped Kim's regime from promising to sending more satellites, including a stationary one, into space.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Malaysia is considering shutting down its embassy in North Korea, according to the report. Her exact age is unknown and she rarely makes public appearances.
Ri married Kim in 2009 and is believed to have given birth to three children, according to South Korean intelligence.
Though he is better known for his photo ops at military installations and missile test sites, Mr Kim's visit to a cosmetics factory serves an important propaganda objective in telegraphing the legitimacy of Mr Kim's rule to the Pyongyang elite and middle-class.
In February previous year, North Korea claimed to have launched a long-range rocket carrying a satellite - just weeks after conducting its fifth nuclear test.
