Alpesh Thakur, who met Rahul on Saturday, after being offered the ticket, announced that he would join the congress on October 23.
The development came yesterday hours after state Congress chief Bharatsinh Solanki invited Hardik Patel to join hands with the party.
Speaking to media person outside Rahul's residence in Delhi, Thakore said that on October 23, the Congress vice president will address a mega rally in poll bound state where he will join the grand old party.
Earlier in the day, another Patidar leader Hardik Patel had turned down the Congress' invitation to fight the Gujarat Assembly election jointly, saying the polls were not a BJP-Congress fight. Reshma and Varun Patel both have reportedly accused the Patidar's leader of becoming a Congress agent. The constitutional amendment bill, however, could not be passed as the Congress stalled it in the Rajya Sabha, following its passage in the Lok Sabha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the best bet for the ruling BJP will also be rushing to Gujarat on Sunday. "I appeal to Hardik to support the Congress during the polls". Congress was "hopeful" that AAP could join hands with them before the polls. Hardik Patel himself said, "I can not contest polls (He is 24 years old and the necessary age to contest elections is 25) and I will not contest". Technically, Hardik Patel can not contest elections as he is underage.
