Can General Motors Use Electric Cars To Revolutize American Car Making?

Most foreign vehicle majors are not ready to bring their electric offerings to India. A lot of countries have been approving laws that will decrease the use of fuel cars for the sake of a better future.

GM also introduced SURUS - the Silent Utility Rover Universal Superstructure - a fuel-cell-powered, four-wheel steer concept vehicle on a heavy-duty truck frame that's driven by two electric motors.

General Motors is reportedly working on two new electric cars that will be introduced within the next 18 months.

GM's chief executive, Mary T. Barra, announced in September that the company, the United States' largest automaker, expected the industry to move aggressively toward an automotive future with zero emissions, traffic accidents, and highway congestion. The company has demonstrated this by rolling out its all-electric Chevy Bolt EV and making progress on fully self-driving cars through its acquisition of Cruise Automation and the creation of its Maven ride-hailing and ride-sharing brand. Musk has said Tesla plans to produce 500,000 electric cars annually by the end of 2018, and 1 million by 2020, though so far it operates just one factory, the former GM-Toyota joint venture that never built more than 430,000 per year.

And the governor said he was "very grateful" to President Donald Trump for responding Puerto Rico's petition for help. Among the provisions: "The Defense Logistics Agency is sending 124,000 gallons of diesel fuel to Puerto Rico ".

Meanwhile, electric carmaker Tesla said Monday that it delivered a record number of vehicles in the third quarter - but fewer of its new Model 3 sedans than anticipated. Some, such as Volvo, intend to only offer electrified drivelines, others, such as Volkswagen, say they will have electrified options available on all future models.

GM shares were up 4%, to $42, though most of those gains came ahead of the news.

"With its capability and flexible architecture, SURUS could be used as a delivery vehicle, truck or even an ambulance - all emissions free", the company said in a news release.

In addition to the 10,000 electric cars, it will also roll out almost 100,000 electric auto rickshaws and buses in the next few weeks. California regulators first launched a zero-emissions mandate two decades ago but rolled it back when it became clear the technology of that era would not meet consumer demand. Mark Ruess, GM head of product, told Wired that the automaker will phase out its gas- and diesel-powered vehicles gradually in different markets.
