Apple TV 4K has been announced by the company at an event in Steve Jobs Theater at the new Apple Park campus. Netflix, Amazon Prime videos will also be introduced on Apple TV 4K soon. Even as most streaming devices today max out support at full-HD, content in 4K is slowly becoming more popular. Apple is also planning to bring live news and sports to its new set-top box.
The existing 1080p, 32GB Apple TV continues to be sold at £149/$149. Essentially, Dolby Vision has extra information, which is used to optimise your picture on a frame-by-frame basis. The tvOS platform has been revised from the ground up with an emphasis on 4K HDR content, and get this, all the Ultra HD movies from the "large Hollywood studios" will be available for the same prices as their regular HD counterparts. Additionally, Apple is launching the TV app in seven additional countries by the end of the year, including Canada and Australia later this month.

The update to Apple's television-connected box brings it in line with other hardware manufacturers who have offered 4K video support for a while.
