After nationwide protests and outrage over the brutal murder of activist and senior journalist Gauri Lankesh, 55, on Tuesday by unidentified assailants, the Karnataka Government has chose to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the crime.
Gauri Lankesh was actively working with the Karnataka government to bring Naxalites into the mainstream, an initiative that hadn't gone down well with them, Indrajit said.
"We strongly believe that such silencing methods are an attempt of divisive forces in a democratic system to stifle the media", the memorandum said.
One of India's most prominent journalists was shot dead on Tuesday by unidentified attackers at her home in the city of Bangalaru. Protests and candlelit vigils were held in her memory across the country.
"Though the attackers and the reason behind the murder is yet to be found out, the modus operandi of the Gauri's killers is similar with earlier three murders of rationalists", Hamid said.
Florida suspends two more for opener vs. MI
Gators coach Jim McElwain is expected to address the latest suspensions after practice today, but the news isn't good for Florida. Scarlett was pivotal for the Gators rushing attack - and an underwhelming offense as a whole - last season as a sophomore.
Scores of journalists gathered at the Press Club of India in the national capital and demanded justice amid calls for standing up to "forces" trying to "muzzle" the voices of dissent.
The Union Home Ministry also sought a report from the Karnataka government over the incident.
Union Minister and senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari hit back, terming as "irresponsible, baseless and false" the Congress allegation seeking to link the killing of Gauri to the BJP or people following its ideology.
Senior journalists BR Lenin, P Siva Kumar, Ch Sudhakar, Noora Srinivas, G Venkat and others also expressed shock at the killing of the journalist.
