The pastor took major heat after he was accused of refusing to open the doors of his Houston megachurch to house flood victims in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

Osteen's megachurch can seat around 17,000 people - three times the capacity of George R. Brown Convention Center, where more than 9,000 people stayed the night (the convention center's official capacity is 5,000).

Dear Houstonians! Lakewood Church is inaccessible due to severe flooding! "So how this notion got started that we're not a shelter and not taking people in was a false narrative".

Photos provided by the church on Monday show flooding inside a building and on a street.

"Once they filled up, they never dreamed that we'd have this many displaced people, (and) they asked us to become a shelter".

Joel Osteen's huge Houston church is open to those needing shelter and volunteers are delivering and sorting donations for those impacted by Hurricane Harvey's devastating impact. "Lakewood will be a value to the community in the aftermath of this storm". "So, there was a safety issue for the first day or two", he said. "If we didn't have our flood gates out back here, it was within one foot".

With the emotional win, she improved to 7-0 against Halep and 18-0 in night matches at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Sharapova was refused a wildcard by French Open organizers and missed Wimbledon with a thigh injury.

By Tuesday morning, the Lakewood Church was finally open to those seeking refuge.

It seems as though many people may have taken Lakewood Church's original post about flooding out of context. He said the firestorm may have "helped us to step up some things" to prepare for evacuees.

US Coast Guard Lt. Mike Hart said the coast guard is receiving up to 1,000 calls per hour from people needing to be rescued. The church's message directed people to other shelters in the area though some on social media questioned how Lakewood was flooded if the surrounding neighborhood was not.

Check out some of the unholy slander Joel Osteen and Lakewood Church has endured over the days below and on the following pages. "OPEN THE DOORS", Pastor Greg Locke commented.

Within minutes, angry social media users were quick to point out Osteen's less than Christian actions. Four people have died.
