The Jags will be set to take on their division rivals, the Houston Texans, Week 1 of the regular season which should prove to be a tall task for Bortles and the offense. Henne has completed 59.3 percent of his passes for 58 touchdowns and 63 interceptions in 53 starts over his eight-year career, which began with four seasons in Miami. Bortles played seven series in the second half and went 12 of 16 for 125 yards and one touchdown.

The two quarterbacks battling for the Jacksonville Jaguars starting job split time Thursday night in the Jaguars 24-23 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Although he racked up a chunk of his statistics late in lopsided games, there was belief that Bortles would only get better.

The quarterback competition is officially on in Jacksonville. He also threw an interception on a pass that was behind Allen Robinson and into double coverage.

"I am excited because (Thursday) will be an opportunity to see (Newton) out there with all the different players we brought in, all the different playmakers we believe we have", Rivera. However, he has also tossed 11 interceptions, that were then returned for touchdowns, since 2014, the most by any quarterback in the NFL. I'm just trying to figure out who is going to be that guy in that position that can lead our team. After another shaky outing last week where he missed several wide open receivers, Marrone has stated that the quarterback job is up for grabs.

"I always watch how players respond", Marrone said.

The AP Top 25 Poll
Alabama is the only Southeastern Conference team in the top 10, but the SEC still leads the way with six teams in the Top 25. Malzahn's team went 8-5 and lost the Outback Bowl in 2014 and went 7-6 and won the Birmingham Bowl in 2015.

"I think offensively we didn't help ourselves". Henne was benched for the rookie after three games in 2014 and has not started a game since. "Or you can say, 'I've had to go through this once and there's no way I'm going to ever let them do it to me again".

Marrone said he named Henne because he'd never seen him start a game before.

"I'm not going to sit here and BS anyone".

"I kind of understand this business after 10 years", Henne said Saturday afternoon before the Jaguars' practice at Daily's Place Flex Field adjacent to EverBank Field.
