The IFRC appeal seeks a little over 4.6 million Swiss francs to help 4,600 people in the aftermath of the disaster and to support their long-term recovery needs.

He said the United Nations is working with the government to provide "physical protection" for those thousands of people displaced or otherwise affected by the landslide.

Responding to the crisis that began on Monday will require "a combination of efforts from all people", he added.
