Iran has been forced to go into apparently confrontationist mode following decision of the new USA administration to impose fresh sanctions against Iran in July, targeting its missile programme.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday he hoped that Iran would not quit the agreement Iran reached in 2015 with world powers to curb Tehran's nuclear work in return for the lifting of most sanctions.

Iran's nuclear program could be restarted in a matter of "hours", if the US government imposes further sanctions on Tehran, the country's president, Hassan Rouhani, said Tuesday.

US Ambassador Nikki Haley says Iran should not be allowed "to use the nuclear deal to hold the world hostage".

"Russia has opposed the United Nations Security Council meeting on Iran's missile program, announcing that Iran's missile program is not related to the use of nuclear weapons. The nuclear deal must not become "too big to fail"," Haley said in a statement. The sanctions in that bill also target Iran's missile programmes as well as human rights abuses.

"I think unilateral sanctions. are irresponsible actions that can hurt and undermine the balance achieved", Lavrov said, commenting on new restrictions recently imposed by Washington on Iran. "It was Iran's preference, but it was not and will not remain Iran's only option", Rouhani said, as cited by AP.

Both games will be designated as Shamrock Series match ups, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said. Notre Dame does not have any players from the state of Wisconsin now on its roster.

"The US policy of indiscriminate sanctions and pressure on third countries will make no good and contribute to emerging of new areas of tension ..." Speaking after adoption of the package, Speaker of the Iranian parliament Ali Larijani said the Americans should know that this was our first action, which means more can not be ruled out.

"We have repeatedly warned that President Trump's beating of the war drum with Iran, even if confined to rhetoric, in addition to new Congressional sanctions and zero diplomatic outreach, could only produce negative consequences".

"Iran can always, and especially in hard times, consider Austria its reliable partner", Scholz said after presenting his credentials to Rouhani, adding that Vienna supports Tehran's worldwide policy.

It was the first contract since Iran implemented a multi-lateral nuclear deal in early 2016. However, he forgets to mention that Iran has been working on it for more than ten years.

President Rouhani stressed the need for more Iran-Russia consultations and cooperation toward the settlement of regional issues in Syria, Yemen, and Iraq, particularly in the fight against terrorism.
