Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi's vehicle was hit by a stone-throwing mob as he visited a flood-hit region of Gujarat state, with leaders of his party blaming supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Police today arrested one Jayesh Darji, a BJP youth wing member, in this connection. He left the stage in a huff after making a brief speech in Lal Chowk area of the town in Banaskantha district after protesters showed black flags to him.
At the Congress press briefing on scams of the builder-turned Maharashtra housing minister Prakash Mehta, senior party MP Husain Dalwai from Mumbai also condemned the stoning of Rahul's auto at a Congress press briefing as a serious matter, saying it shows that the BJP government can stoop down to do anything. He pointed out that Gandhi is a national leader and his security was the responsibility of the BJP-led Gujarat government which has deliberately neglected it. "If something as flimsy as insecurity on the part of the RSS-BJP collective at Rahul Gandhi's visit to Banaskantha, which is hit by major floods, could cause them to make such an attack, just think what they're capable of", said Richard Marak, MPYC president. "What can I say?" BJP Chief Minister Vijay Rupani did not visit the district for six days after the flood havoc, while Prime Minister Modi did not make a stopover while making a flying trip to Gujarat.

While terming the incident as highly condemnable and against ethos democracy in the country, he said culture of violence being encouraged against opponents is risky for democracy and the Congress workers would fight against such policies and philosophy with backing of BJP in the Country.
After the attack, Rahul wrote on Twitter: Narendra Modi ji's slogans, black flags and stones will not stop us. "We will put in all our might into the service of people". "A person who has a Special Protection Group (SPG) cover, if he is also not spared and stones are thrown and his car's windows are broken then it's a sad story which reflects on the establishment of how careless they are when it comes to protection of the Opposition leaders", Sibal said.
He tweeted: I condemn the unfortunate attack on Rahul Gandhi's convoy. Govt has appointed Add DG rank officer to investigate in detail and will take strict action against those found responsible.
