All the 175 MLAs in the AP Assembly, including those of the lone opposition YSRC, had earlier pledged their support to NDA's presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his Goa counterpart Manohar Parrikar are among 55 MPs who will vote in their state assemblies instead of Parliament House for the presidential election tomorrow, an Election Commission document says. Added all up, the total number of MPs vote in India is 776 (Lok Sabha 543 + Rajya Sabha 233).
BJP president Amit Shah, a legislator from Gujarat's Naranpura, is among the five MLAs who have been allowed to vote at the polling station set up in the Parliament, poll panel sources said. Her nomination, which followed Kovind's, was seen by many as the opposition's attempt to counter Modi's move to woo dalits. This fight is between two strong candidates National Democratic Alliance NDA's candidate Ram Nath Kovind and United Progressive Alliance UPA's candidate Meira Kumar.
