Veteran tennis star, Venus Williams has ended the fairy tale run of Britain's Johanna Konta, beating her 6-4, 6-2 to reach her first final since 2009.

Konta became the first British woman to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals since Virginia Wade in 1978 when she beat Simona Halep in an engaging three-set encounter.

And after the match, she reflected on just how well Williams had performed on her way to becoming the oldest Wimbledon finalist since Martina Navratilova in 1994.

The American won her first Wimbledon title in 2000 and the most recent of her seven Major victories came on Centre Court in 2008.

Williams owns a 3-1 career mark versus Muguruza, who lost to Serena Williams in the final at Wimbledon in 2015.

Romanian Halep would have become world number one had she beaten the Briton but went down 6-7 (2) 7-6 (5) 6-4. Magdalena Rybarikova, from Slovakia, was the lowest ranked Wimbledon semifinalist in nine years.

Floyd "Money" Mayweather isn't exactly the most popular man in the world of sports , but he's certainly one of the richest. His father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., just added himself to Mayweather Jr's bandwagon saying his son will "whoop ass".

"I've played a lot of finals here", said Williams. When she puts herself in a position to do that, she plays with a lot of depth, a lot of speed, and you don't get much of a chance to get your, I guess, grip into the points.

Mr Sherring acknowledged that he was "nervous" ahead of today's semi-final but "really excited" to watch his former player from the Centre Court stands.

Her vast experience has given her plenty of weapons to unsettle her opponents and she deployed them perfectly to unsettle Konta's rhythm - particularly on her previously solid serve. "I just stuck to my true self". I'm sure she's going to give me hopefully some things that will make a difference for me in the match. "Before the match I wished she could do it for me, but I said "no you have to do it for yourself", Venus said. The crowd were very nice to me. I think Jo handled the pressure well. Williams, a four-time Olympic champion and bronze medalist at the Olympic Games Rio 2016, also is now the winningest active player at Wimbledon with a record of 87-14, moving past sister Serena at 86-10.

"Konta-Mania. I didn't hear that before", Konta said when told about fans wearing T-shirts bearing her name.

"I just don't want it to be over like Andy Murray losing".
