Cirstea climbed over the net to check on her opponent and was evidently upset by what she saw.

Believed by many to be a fairly common sporting injury - an ACL tear, her injury looks far more serious on inspection. After the American went down, it took nearly 20 minutes for the medical staff to get her onto a stretcher and remove her from the court.

"F*** it hurts, f*** me it hurts". Have you given me any fucking painkillers?

When paramedics arrived they gave her lengthy treatment including oxygen, but her screams could still be heard across large parts of the grounds.

"Please knock me out, please knock me out". "She was shouting "Sorana, help me" and all I could say was "I'm here, be strong". When she was taken out of the field she was seen crying out in pain and clutches her right leg. "I'm going to kill you all". To Cristea, that was too long. "These painkillers are not working", she reportedly said.

Total-led group lands first contract in Iran in a decade
The news was also reported by Iran's state-run Tasnim News Agency, which said the deal was "in the final stages". Hopes are high in Iran that the Iranian Petroleum Contract will enhance local companies' capabilities.

"She went into shock". Her knee was in a very weird position.

Wimbledon has never seen anything like this! I think was tough because she was stuck on this, Sorana, help me, Sorana help me. "It was like something you see only in the movies", Cristea told BBC News.

The incident happened when Mattek-Sands while playing a shot apparently slipped and then fell down awkwardly on the court.

Second seed Novak Djokovic and No. 3 Roger Federer have advanced to the third round of Wimbledon by winning in straight sets.

The 32-year-old has been inundated with messages from well-wishers on social media and the WTA statement continued: "Bethanie of course thanks everyone for their kind wishes and messages of support". Her injury is likely to put that goal out of reach.
