They even teased The Sinister Six in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but future movies were put on hold when the new series underperformed at the box office.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is in United Kingdom cinemas July 5.

I've never quite been able to bring myself to like Tobey Maguire's version of Spider-Man, perhaps because of director Sam Raimi's unerring ability to create movies lacking in any of the traits that endeared the original comic books to me. However, Spider-Man: Homecoming introduces Peter Parker after he fought with Tony Stark in the clash between Iron Man and Captain America in Captain America: Civil War.

Spider-Man: Homecoming co-stars Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Donald Glover, Jon Favreau, Michael Keaton, Garcelle Beauvais, Angourie Rice, Zendaya, Hannibal Buress and Bokeem Woodbine.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit cinemas on 6 July.

Marvel had a pretty heavy marketing campaign for Spider-Man: Homecoming and while most fans are pretty psyched to see Tom Holland return to the big screen as New York's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, others have been complaining that the studio's numerous trailers and TV spots have been spoiling the movie.

So despite the claim that Spidey would "lead" Phase 4, the suggestion there is very much that Marvel aren't planning for anything beyond that. "It's one of the best crowd pleasers in the Marvel oeuvre, and the best Spider-Man film so far". Without having seen the movie yet, I have one complaint - don't you just hate trailers which make you feel as if you have seen it already?!
