Former NBA basketball player Dennis Rodman arrives at Beijing Capital International Airport in Beijing, Tuesday, June 13, 2017.

CNN reports that a senior USA official said the State Department knows that Rodman is headed to North Korea but is not there on behalf of the country.

"CNN spotted Rodman at Beijing International Airport, where he declined to answer questions".

The report added citing a US State Department official that Rodman had planned to visit North Korea and will not be visiting in any official role. A senior USA official also confirmed Rodman's trip and said he was not there in an official capacity, according to CNN. During the 2014 visit he led a team of retired American players in a basketball game to celebrate Kim Jong Un's birthday.

Rodman has traveled to North Korea before, though he has been criticized for comments he made on previous trips.

Banned outfit NSCN-K's supremo SS Khaplang passes away
In his last will, Khaplang said: "I have done my part for the freedom of my people with the little capacity God has given me". Rijiju said the Indian government had withdrawn ceasefire with NSCN after banning it in 2015 through a special notification.

A spokesman for a North Korean cultural exchange program told the state-run North Korea News at the time of his West Point talk that if Rodman re-emerges as a "cultural diplomat", he would most "definitely be welcome back to Pyongyang".

Americans are regarded as enemies in North Korea because the two countries never signed a peace treaty to formally end the 1950-53 Korean War. Just this year, the dictator-ruled state has launched 16 ballistic missiles, each getting closer and closer to reaching United States soil. Rodman told Kim he has a "friend for life".

North Korea has become an increasing threat to the USA during Trump's time in the White House.

Rodman, a flamboyant NBA Hall of Famer, has visited the Kim at least four times since 2013.

Rodman has in the past defended his trips as "basketball diplomacy" and called them a "great idea for the world", according to CNN.

The purposes of Rodman's visits to North Korea have never been fully transparent. Rodman was a cast member on two seasons of Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice".
