Madhya Pradesh farmers' strike: AAP to oppose Shivraj Singh Chouhan's Odisha visit

While farmers' protest rages on in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has started his indefinite fast which he says will continue "until peace is restored".

Madhya Pradesh is set to go for polls next year. "He is one chief minister who is accessible to people all the time".

- I can feel the pain of caning farmers and genuinely want to stop this violence, Chouhan further says.

Expressing grief over the escalating farmers' agitation, the Chief Minister said that he is open to discussions with them and is sitting on the ground as he understands their pain. I will resolve their problems. He has also invited agitating farmers for talks.

As the farmers' protests entered its tenth day in the state, Chouhan launched his indefinite fast at the Dusshera Maidan here today promising profitable prices to farmers for their produce. He announced his decision at a press conference on Friday evening.Chouhan was flanked by his ministerial colleagues and BJP leaders.

"Shivraj Singh Chouhan's fast is a drama.It is a sham, he should answer why a case of murder has not been filed in the death of five farmers in Madhya Pradesh", party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told reporters here. A temporary residence and a House panel have also been erected, with the deployment of heavy forces at the venue. Between 2011 and 2015, according to the National Crime Records Bureau, a total of 6076 farmers had committed suicide in the state.

Farmers in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur district have been protesting for better prices for their produce and loan waiver. The situation is similar in case of wheat as well, he alleged.
