The updated notebook product lineup goes on sale in the US starting today. It is indeed the most powerful Mac ever delivered by Apple. It eclipses even the Mac Pro which is nominally Apple's top of the line desktop.
The updated iMac features Kaby Lake processors up to 4.2GHz with Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz and supports up to twice the memory as the previous generation. You can buy one online today from the Apple Store. All-Flash storage is configurable at up to 4 TB, 2666 MHz DDR4 ECC RAM scales to 128 GB, and two Thunderbolt 3 controllers are built in for accessing external storage and other devices. They also have larger caches, which means better performance with more complex data - whether large, multi-layered Photoshop files, 4K video or 3D scenes with huge textures.
Finally, Apple will be releasing new space gray wireless accessories - Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 - to go with the space gray design of the iMac Pro. Although it shares the same basic design as its "non-Pro" counterparts, it features an improved dual fan cooling system that Apple claims is able to accommodate much higher end hardware than has previously been available in an iMac. A 27-inch Retina 5K iMac specced up with 32GB of 2400MHz DDR4 and a 2TB Fusion drive memory costs $4709 for instance.
One more thing: the iMac Pro looks to be a straight replacement for the cylindrical Mac Pro which was sometimes rack-mounted.
Two Colorado students advance to next round in National Spelling Bee
According to the Scripps web site, Ishreet "loves to spell, and she puts in a lot of work when she sits down to study". Twelve-year-old Melodie, and her mother, Debbie Loya, both from Bainbridge, arrived at the Bee Sunday afternoon.
The screen itself is also pretty impressive, spanning 27 inches and 14.7 million pixels, with support for more than a billion colors.
Here, Apple has used the new Kaby Lake processors (higher frequency and HEVC decoding), which is the latest next-gen CPU from the Intel's. The company said the screen is also 43 percent brighter than its previous models. Weighing just two pounds and measuring 13.1mm thin, MacBook is our thinnest and lightest notebook for all-day, on-the-go computing.
Apple also yesterday updated MacBook and MacBook Pro with faster processors, added faster SSDs to MacBook and introduced a new US$1,299 13-inch MacBook Pro. Thunderbolt 3 has landed and graphics cards have been upgraded. The MacBook Air has also seen some upgrades in the processor department with Apple fitting a 1.8 GHz processor into it.
It has a 27-inch Retina 5K display, up to 18-core Xeon processors and up to 22 Teraflops of graphics computation.
The iMacs above will no doubt be really quick and perfectly usable computers, but Apple teased the new Pro version which makes them seem a bit meh, really.
